They couldn't be any different from pacing and additional instrumentation to beats and vibe. It's a great thing to hear and take in samples flipped so ill while the tune is so very well known to everyone in the world. Lyrics, too. Khalil goes in about what it took to be that One that created everything and all the feelings towards Dude. While B.o.B and the rest on his people talk about singularity and looking out for yourself in an industry that doesn't really care about you. All while life itself doesn't seem to either. I approve of both. This would been a great 2dopeboyz battle, but oh well.
UPDATE: added Charles Hamilton's new joint to this year-old post. Nice little 7 degrees thing going between Charles putting Charlie in the spotlight with a blog post like two years ago and the to-be discussed B.o.B/Hamilton companionship. Yeah ... so there ya go.

So it's not a new song ... but it's a new song. I took all the guest verses from the Charlie Hilton remixed "Hold On" joint and queued them up with the original instrumental by me and my dude Steven. Then I sprinkled in a little spoken word piece on the intro by nationals-ranking UT poet Calvin Smith. And I really like how it came out. The Hilton version is still the original monster, but this is a crazy nice alternative for the fans of my debut album. Even though it's no longer on iTunes. *Sad face*

III: Laptopical
III: Laptopical is finally here.
My brand new full length project, the third and final one in my "laptop trilogy", is now available to the public on this 1st of March in the year of 2010 featuring original production by Chris Campbell and Charlie Hilton as well as retakes of tracks produced by DJ Khalil, Mr. DJ, Elite, & Just Blaze. I do have to throw out the word of warning that the epic "Hold On (Remix)" listed as track 12 is not currently in the zip file for download. It's still pending completion with some amazing emcees lending their verses to the Charlie Hilton reinterpretation of my lead single from I Get That a Lot, but trust that I'll get that joint out the minute it's ready. I just didn't want to hold back this project any longer that I'd started producing for as far back ago as July '09. So here's the follow up to The Laptop Mixtape and Vol. 2, A Laptop Chronicle that have defined my progress as an emcee since 2007 to where I am today in this whole music thing.

How Thoughtful
Great surprise today with this release. I guess I haven't been paying attention as of late, but you should know that any QuESt release is all quality. This one is a warm-up mixtape in the same vein of There's Only One Month Left. That means the focus is more on adding his vibe to industry beats with a few all original joints sprinkled in. And I ain't mad as he takes on such recent tracks as "Angels", "I'm So Appalled", and "Exhibit C" plus past bangers like "I Know" and "Boss' Life".
And by the way, how dope is that cover art? I sweat QuESt's flow regardless and the fact that he isn't afraid to go dark on some of his subject matter. He sounds like nobody else out there and I'll be straight with any project dropping from dude. Even though his manager dude wouldn't get me back about a feature on "Hold On". Haha. He'd kill it too since he's already destroyed some Charlie Hilton production and would sound perfect following up brandUn DeShay on the track. Oh well. I ain't bitter.

Hold On: Mike Dreams
I've had this song that's been "under construction" for a good while now. It's my "Hold On (Remix)" joint, revamped from my debut album lead single by the masterful London producer Charlie Hilton. The seeds of this song go all the way back to the very beginning of the summer and is still nowhere close to being done, but I wanted to start a short series highlighting all the contributors to what will become of this epic song. And here is me doing that.
The newest emcee to come into the fold is Mike Dreams, formerly Young Son a.k.a. Sean Kingston's twin brother a.k.a. Gravy's second cousin, removed.
My man right here is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. That alone holds him in good company with beast MN emcees like Slug, P.O.S, and Brother Ali. You can catch all over the 2dopeboyz c-section and thankfully that, along with his dope music, has got him some features on one of hip hop's premier blog sites. As a frequent c-section arguer myself, I first caught ear of his sound from his promptly released "Run This Town" freestyle.
Mike Dreams - Run This Town
Mike's just a straight positive emcee. His flow is completely effortless as he takes on all kinds of beats and makes them easy, head-nodding jams. With his relentless storytelling, relatable subject matter, and genuine delivery, any song he jumps on is set to improve. I personally think he's at his best when he goes in slow-flowed and heavy on a thoughtful instrumental that lets him wax poetic on something crazy inspirational. Not too many rappers can pull that off without coming off corny. I can't front on his hyped joints either, though. And while we'll all forgive him for being a Drake fan (just joking, man), Mike Dreams definitely is a force to be reckoned with. Dude's got an extensive live show resumé and is fit to be recognized on a bigger stage real soon. And on another refreshing note, Mike doesn't curse in his rhymes. I've been tryinna tell people I'm not the only one. Ha. And if all that along with his QuESt and XV cosigns aren't enough to convince you of how dope this emcee is, then you take your time scouring over these links and get yourself familiar. And hold on.

Everybody's Not Been Killed
Now I gotta start this off by saying I was pretty hyped for this tape in the same way I was about QuESt's a couple days back. It's been advertised for a good while and I've been pretty keen on most of dude's new music through leaks, that contest that brandUn won, his perfect Charlie Hilton features, and general promotion. I'm talking about XV's Everybody's Nobody. And here it is.

So yeah, I was geeked for it. And I definitely recommend it for download easily, it's pretty hit and miss with me. But that's just me. I'm more partial to when dude slows it down and has a distinctive concept like when he bodied the aforementioned Hilton tracks, plus the standouts like "Mirror's Edge", "Fall Out the Sky", and the freestyle over OutKast's "In Due Time" on this tape. But then he's got a ton of schitzo, techno-influenced, unfocused, and overloaded joints like "Vizzy, Vizzy, Vizzy", "A.D.D.", and the Wiz Khalifa-assisted "Gobstopper" that can't listen to over and over again. Maybe it's just that some of his songs are very futuristic, overly processed, or maybe a little too far-reaching for my tastes, but that may be what stands out to you and makes this tapes a favorite in your iTunes. I highly suggest you formulate your own opinion cuz the comment sections on sites I've been to have very favorable views on the entire project. Not that they are in the same lane or need to be compared to each other, but I'm more partial to Broken Headphones for my repeat playlist at the beginning of August '09. But don't let me deter you from your free download. Still looking forward to dude's music in the future. If Charles Hamilton made up with XV after a minor spat a while back, then I can for sure keep up with my personal support. Kansas hip hop is now in the building for the first time.

One Month Ago ...
While I was on my temporarily blogging hiatus last month, I completely whiffed on ever posting the insane promo mixtape leading up to the Broken Headphones album that I just posted milliseconds ago.

Like I've mentioned before, I warmed up to QuESt's crazy unique style initially through his features on two Charlie Hilton tracks off of Good Food. And they were definably two standout tracks. He's got that crossed inflection and flow between a Jay-Z circa '96 and a Fahrenheit-era Lupe. But he's one hundred percent wholly his own rapper, so don't get me wrong when I mention the comparisons. What's equally as impressive as the product he's pushing is how easily he's gotten the word out to the blogosphere. Dude legitimately had people anticipating and emotionally investing in the date of July 28th, whether through the mixtape that I'm retroactively linking up in this post, or scattered hype videos across the internet, or the strategically leaked singles that happen to be floating around. With his team, he efficiently got himself an indie following straight out the box. And once you get onto his music, his concepts and lyrics speak for themselves. So there ya go. Cop both freebies and get to know the man who has the potential to be a staying figure in hip hop if he can keep up the atmosphere he's built around himself on the internet in 2009.

The new it artist for me right now just dropped his first proper free album last night. Definitely gonna be on constant roll once I get up out of this hospital. Thought I was about to die last night, but maybe God kept me so I could get this Broken Headphones joint in my system. Who knows?

Lust for Life
Who knows if they're samples or Charlie re-did the Drake beat. I mean ... I could prolly just ask him ... but I haven't written an entry the whole summer, so that shows you how lazy I've been. Either way, they're both fire. I wrote up a piece on Drake awhile back and since then he's legitimately exploded on the scene. Just saw him the other night with Jamie Foxx on the new Conan Tonight Show (which I'm extremely impressed with so far). But you know what ... I ain't really feeling Drake anymore.

I know it's blasphemous to say nowadays since he's still publicly brand new, but all the adoration surrounding him bores me. His music is definitely welcomed by me on the radio; I'm all for that. But people are talking foolish now that he's the best out like he's doing anything different than anyone else ... which he's not. He's got his own thing going, but he isn't pushing any boundaries (good or bad) that haven't already been pushed by Phonte, Lil' Wayne, or Trey Songz. He's nice, but ain't that nice.
But who cares. Both these tracks are nice.

More Hilton
QuESt - Losing My Mind (feat. Choze & Neija Jane)
Love this song. Brand new leak off of [Charlie Hilton's Good Food]/[QuESt's Broken Headphones]. The production laced on here is absolutely immaculate. The beat is so saturated with beautiful, coherent sounds balancing a wide-spread, busy soundscape with peaceful breeziness. You just gotta hear it. And QuESt's delivery and style is quick becoming a personal favorite of mine. I read in a comment someone comparing him vocally to Jay-Z circa Reasonable Doubt times. And while that may seem a hip hop equivalent of sacrilige, I can definitely hear it. Dude's song-making ability is already up there, too. Choruses, bridges, ad-libs, verse structure, melodies. Everything's on point. Consider me impressed.

Good Food
Really enjoy this joint right here by the dude Charlie Hilton. First full product heard off of his Good Food mixtape.
Check out the leaked post of it here. Really nice sample of "Hometown Glory". Love new-ish contemporary sampling. If this is any indication of how the tape is, it's gonna be as stellar as its original intention. And once No Really, I'm a Rapper EP drops you'll be able to hear the original version of "Back Home" off I Get That a Lot which is called "Toto". It's produced by Hilton if you didn't already assume it.

Figured I'd get y'all up to date with my goings-on before I stay up all night with reports and homework at the library.
So my Deka Records album is completely done. I Get That a Lot. Sent in, artworked up, tracklisted, and set for release in 2 to 4 weeks. I've been told I'll have an exact release within a few days, so keep looking for that. The album will be released as digital only at first. Not sure if iTunes immediately, but guaranteed to be on iTunes. And then pressings of the actual CDs will commence afterwards. Again, no official dates or anything, but there's the generalities. So except tracks 3 and 8 which are helmed by the incomparable brandUn DeShay, all compositions are from the realm of Angus Malone. You feel that other worldy vibe in the air? That's Angus Malone. With that lil' eery sense of completion in a universe of the categorizably incomplete, Angus Malone draws that perfect circle. What? Exactly. The single, "Hold On", is also slated to be remixed with contribution from (hopefully!!!) Charlie Hilton, Nova-Lyric, Ern, T-Burr, (hopefully!!!) brandUn DeShay, Lavish, and (hopefully!!!) the homie Praverb. Could wind up being an absolutely essential track covering the entire United States. I hope everybody I've reached out to enjoys and goes in on it as much as I'm hoping.
No Really, I'm a Rapper EP will tentatively be available for free download a week before my actual album release. It also will be one hundred percent original music produced by brandUn, Charlie Hilton, and Adam Braun. Short lil' tape, but a beautiful sampler of tracks that either couldn't get cleared because of it's sample or that was finished too late. Perfect appetizer for y'all.
The newly started project, Sonic the Campbellton, is in full effect. Hahaha. I love that title. It's gonna be a full-length mixtape of redubbed Charles Hamilton production. My vocals will grace instrumentals he's released and we'll just see what happens. Maybe when I send it to him he'll even give it a listen.
Another new development is The Laptop Mixtape: ReFix!!! that I'm going to try and get together when I can. I'll be redoing my entire first mixtape. All the same lyrics, but with better delivery, better presentation, better quality, and an overall better product. I feel like I've grown too much as a rapper since I recorded it to leave it as is, so I wanna make it a product I can proudly list in my catalogue. I love it now, but it doesn't reach the potential that the lyrics give it with how I rapped when I first started. Gonna be fun to relive it.
And then there's gonna be ReReRemix. It's gonna be sequel to Remix Part Three!!! in that it's me mashing together the hundred individual freestyles that every rapper and their mom puts out to whatever popular song, but with my own lil' flavor and ingenuity. And this time the joints are gonna be better produced and more concise. No 16 minute long joints. Ha. Even though I know you still listened to it.
The long-ago announced 27 Point Me is still gonna be completed one day. It's the musical comedy joint set up like a radio station with me interviewing celebrities and hip hop oriented skits. It's gonna be good, I just gotta settle in on it.
The third installment of my Laptop Trilogy is dubbed III: Laptopical. It will be the collective tale of how my life has changed in the last year since I started recording music. A mixture of everything from the freestyles to check-up interludes to poetry. It's simply the revolving door of my conscious. Don't expect it any kinda soon, but expect it.
At some point, I'm going to redo the entire Goodie Mob Soul Food album with all the rappers I know in Kentucky. Nothing can live up to Goodie, but we'll do a KY-styled version like how was already done by tons of in-state artists with OutKast's ATLiens. Tentatively called KY Whole Food.
So yeah. That's everything I can think of as of now. Well ... I gotta get on this lab report and crap. Hope y'all are all still here to support me when the album drops and everything that happens musically from then on. Peace.

The Run Down
So here's wuz hannennin' with the album as of late.
Me and Steven got 8 completely all original instrumentals completely finished with his amazingly genius musical talents. One's already got Aaronn singing over it and one's set to have Steven going crazy. I'm handling every other millisecond of those projects vocally. There are three other songs floating in the universe: two with brandUn DeShay and one with Charlie Hilton. One of the brandUn tracks is completely finished in all facets with a feature as well a hopeful sample clearance in the future. The second is awaiting his brilliant finishing touches. I don't even know what it sounds like. The Hilton track has the most amazing Ern vocals over it and is completely hinged upon the success of finding and clearing a sample that we don't exactly know what it is.
Hopefully those outside-produced tracks work out cuz they're ridiculously amazing, but even if not, me & Shtee are set to throw together a couple more ideas in brain storming musical format.

I've been dookie on updating this since I've gotten home for the semester. Truth be told it's cuz I was sleeping. And watching the Lakers send the Celtics into a dismal spurt. Hahahaha. Been waiting since June for that one.
But I can make it better.
Today [January 1, 2009] will be my day of music making. For all intensive purposes, I'm spending the entire day over at Shtee's house and we're making clash-of-the-musically-inclined-minds "compos". (c) brandUn DeShay
Everybody's been so cool to me when they hear about the lil' deal, and that's prolly given me more motivation to make the best collection of sound I can over the next two months. I want every millisecond of these songs to be a hundred times better than anything on any of my mixtapes. I want to be able to listen to my own stuff for the first time because I'm funneling it from God instead of me, and I'm very willing to listen to Him. I don't wanna disappoint me or my A&R or anybody who would actually get hyped at the potential of hearing me on wax. I've always had my words, and now I just gotta find brand new beats for them to nestle into.
Shout outs to brandUn DeShay, Charlie Hilton, Praverb, and other open-minded and well-intended musicians. You all make yourselves better every day as well as the people around you. And, not to ruin one of my inevitable 2008 lists, thanks to Charles Hamilton who achieved becoming my favorite rapper this last year. Kind of a big deal.
I just really like this song. It's my corny "ring in the new year" song I decided to choose as I rolled through my 17,423 iTunes songs.
