III: Laptopical

III: Laptopical is finally here.

My brand new full length project, the third and final one in my "laptop trilogy", is now available to the public on this 1st of March in the year of 2010 featuring original production by Chris Campbell and Charlie Hilton as well as retakes of tracks produced by DJ Khalil, Mr. DJ, Elite, & Just Blaze. I do have to throw out the word of warning that the epic "Hold On (Remix)" listed as track 12 is not currently in the zip file for download. It's still pending completion with some amazing emcees lending their verses to the Charlie Hilton reinterpretation of my lead single from I Get That a Lot, but trust that I'll get that joint out the minute it's ready. I just didn't want to hold back this project any longer that I'd started producing for as far back ago as July '09. So here's the follow up to The Laptop Mixtape and Vol. 2, A Laptop Chronicle that have defined my progress as an emcee since 2007 to where I am today in this whole music thing.

What's Goin' On with Me

Figured I'd get y'all up to date with my goings-on before I stay up all night with reports and homework at the library.

So my Deka Records album is completely done. I Get That a Lot. Sent in, artworked up, tracklisted, and set for release in 2 to 4 weeks. I've been told I'll have an exact release within a few days, so keep looking for that. The album will be released as digital only at first. Not sure if iTunes immediately, but guaranteed to be on iTunes. And then pressings of the actual CDs will commence afterwards. Again, no official dates or anything, but there's the generalities. So except tracks 3 and 8 which are helmed by the incomparable brandUn DeShay, all compositions are from the realm of Angus Malone. You feel that other worldy vibe in the air? That's Angus Malone. With that lil' eery sense of completion in a universe of the categorizably incomplete, Angus Malone draws that perfect circle. What? Exactly. The single, "Hold On", is also slated to be remixed with contribution from (hopefully!!!) Charlie Hilton, Nova-Lyric, Ern, T-Burr, (hopefully!!!) brandUn DeShay, Lavish, and (hopefully!!!) the homie Praverb. Could wind up being an absolutely essential track covering the entire United States. I hope everybody I've reached out to enjoys and goes in on it as much as I'm hoping.

No Really, I'm a Rapper EP will tentatively be available for free download a week before my actual album release. It also will be one hundred percent original music produced by brandUn, Charlie Hilton, and Adam Braun. Short lil' tape, but a beautiful sampler of tracks that either couldn't get cleared because of it's sample or that was finished too late. Perfect appetizer for y'all.

The newly started project, Sonic the Campbellton, is in full effect. Hahaha. I love that title. It's gonna be a full-length mixtape of redubbed Charles Hamilton production. My vocals will grace instrumentals he's released and we'll just see what happens. Maybe when I send it to him he'll even give it a listen.

Another new development is The Laptop Mixtape: ReFix!!! that I'm going to try and get together when I can. I'll be redoing my entire first mixtape. All the same lyrics, but with better delivery, better presentation, better quality, and an overall better product. I feel like I've grown too much as a rapper since I recorded it to leave it as is, so I wanna make it a product I can proudly list in my catalogue. I love it now, but it doesn't reach the potential that the lyrics give it with how I rapped when I first started. Gonna be fun to relive it.

And then there's gonna be ReReRemix. It's gonna be sequel to Remix Part Three!!! in that it's me mashing together the hundred individual freestyles that every rapper and their mom puts out to whatever popular song, but with my own lil' flavor and ingenuity. And this time the joints are gonna be better produced and more concise. No 16 minute long joints. Ha. Even though I know you still listened to it.

The long-ago announced 27 Point Me is still gonna be completed one day. It's the musical comedy joint set up like a radio station with me interviewing celebrities and hip hop oriented skits. It's gonna be good, I just gotta settle in on it.

The third installment of my Laptop Trilogy is dubbed III: Laptopical. It will be the collective tale of how my life has changed in the last year since I started recording music. A mixture of everything from the freestyles to check-up interludes to poetry. It's simply the revolving door of my conscious. Don't expect it any kinda soon, but expect it.

At some point, I'm going to redo the entire Goodie Mob Soul Food album with all the rappers I know in Kentucky. Nothing can live up to Goodie, but we'll do a KY-styled version like how was already done by tons of in-state artists with OutKast's ATLiens. Tentatively called KY Whole Food.

So yeah. That's everything I can think of as of now. Well ... I gotta get on this lab report and crap. Hope y'all are all still here to support me when the album drops and everything that happens musically from then on. Peace.

The Run Down

So here's wuz hannennin' with the album as of late.

Me and Steven got 8 completely all original instrumentals completely finished with his amazingly genius musical talents. One's already got Aaronn singing over it and one's set to have Steven going crazy. I'm handling every other millisecond of those projects vocally. There are three other songs floating in the universe: two with brandUn DeShay and one with Charlie Hilton. One of the brandUn tracks is completely finished in all facets with a feature as well a hopeful sample clearance in the future. The second is awaiting his brilliant finishing touches. I don't even know what it sounds like. The Hilton track has the most amazing Ern vocals over it and is completely hinged upon the success of finding and clearing a sample that we don't exactly know what it is.

Hopefully those outside-produced tracks work out cuz they're ridiculously amazing, but even if not, me & Shtee are set to throw together a couple more ideas in brain storming musical format.

This is the stuff. The first one was practice. The poetry was just some soul bearing. The remix was for fun. But this ... this is the stuff.

My favorite songs to make were the 808's trilogy. I took all 12 songs from Yeezy's new album and made concept mashed tracks from them. Consider it my album review for the masterpiece. Features from Aaronn, Steven & Tyler as always, but also an impressive first time collabo with Nova-Lyric.

The only surprise thing is that a couple tracks, including the famed brandUn DeShay joint, had to disappear from this specific tape. Is that possibly because they're going to be featured on a future full-length all-original released album? Only time will tell ...

Classic: Retrospect for Life

I pray, quite often as a matter of fact, that Lauryn Hill blesses the world with more music at some point in the future. In my mind, Ms. Hill is the only voice out there that can compete with Ern right now. Dead serious.

Common - Retrospect for Life (feat. Lauryn Hill)

Back in the day when the Fugees were everybody's favorite group, Lauryn made one of her extremely rare features on an amazingly touching Common track. This is circa 1997, mind you. Fresh off The Score. So this is serious. Lauryn humming under Common's lyrics gives me chills now nodding to the set-up of me and Ern's "My Life" track. It's just the stuff. I'm a sucker for piano loops in any given rap track, but a frickin' sucker for one with Lauryn Hill singing her soul out over that piano loop.

I, never dreamed you'd leave, in summer.

Now the situation's made things change.

Why didn't you stay?

Find out if he stayed or not. And why he had to make that decision at all. This is real people music. And Common's jumped doubly ahead of every other rapper on my Classic series in number of tracks featured. Ha! It's crazy surprising to me, and I guess I take this track's perfectness for granted, but this is the only collabo between these two legends. Don't be the one who doesn't know.

I only have two tracks from her currently, but she's something else on the mic. But I still hold my firm opinion that Lauryn Hill is the greatest non-testosterone laced rapper of all time.

Poetic Heartbreak in Acapella

There's technically a space in "A capella" and an extra "p", but I didn't want it there cuz this is how I've misspelled it my whole life! Thanks to Ern for the amazing album cover again, again, again! She only charges me a free-ninety-nine for each one. This picture to the right is slightly updated from the zip file that's linked, so you can drag this one to replace the artwork on iTunes or whatever.

Now to explain it. The base of the photograph is of course my journal. It's actually opened to the original scribblings of my song "In My Mind" that's gonna be on Vol. 2, A Laptop Chronicle. Passing the torch above it is my previous journal from junior year in high school. The two pictures are me with Shihan and Black Ice, the two greatest spoken word poets EVER, who I've both gotten to see perform in the last couple months worth hours of goosebumps and enlightenment! It was more rewarding for me to meet and talk to them than about any other famous person because they were so down to earth and deep. I love those pictures.

My ear buds are gently wrapping themselves up in my notebook. That's my inspiration giving way to the writing that the pen's manifesting. Also, the top left corner actually has a Steven Wright comedy album poking in the picture. The part of that cover shows an abstract perception trick on the pictured flat, checkered floor, so it's kinda just an artsy things-aren't-always-what-they-seem message. But Steven Wright himself, though out of the picture, is the sideways hint of comedy even in serious situations tinged on my album as a whole. It's deep stuff, but some of it's just as fun as it is thought-provoking.

Lastly, the bottom ribbon coming out of the notebook represents that this is all a reminiscing experience. A lot of the poems were situations that arose in my past, but each has lessons that pertain to even today. But eventually, though I enjoy all the good and bad parts of my past, I gotta flip back up the the held spot of the present. And I gotta write my way into the future.

Just a General Update

Just wanted to let you all know about all my projects and those upcoming.

The Laptop Mixtape

Vol. 2, A Laptop Chronicle

I've posted a lot of the songs I've finished from it on this blog, but even those have mostly been tweaked for my sophomore effort. It currently stands at 11 completely done tracks on my iTunes, but I got at least 6 completely untouched brand new (produced by me) beats sitting in GarageBand. Plus the two brandUn tracks. Plus about three or four other instrumentals I wanna go over if they come out right. So yeah, it's shaping up. I have no idead when it's be completely zipped and out in the world, but it shouldn't be too long. Oh, and I just finished this quick ditty. "Brett Favre" (downloadable link). A hilarious sample flipped to an an important concept. An ode to Ethan, of course. Ha! The whole thing'll be out soon enough. Has less features than my first (whether that's a good or bad thing) and some original Chris Campbell production. Lead single is the Andre and Norah featured "Take It Off".

Remix Part Three!!!

In case you're not Tyler or not a retentive Busta Rhymes fan, this title is a tribute to his screaming at the beginning of the sloppily compiled internet remixes of "Touch It" a couple years back. But it's my crazy big remix project of all the recent hit singles in which everybody and their mom dropped a freestyle verse or remix to. I compiled 'em all, mixed 'em, dropped a verse on 'em, and let the world have the product. Currently 100% done with 6 songs off it, and it'll prolly end up being 10 or 11 deep. Commercial product, but one with integrity. The Alicia Keys remix that I did is DOPE!

Simply Poetic

A spoken word album. This is where the heavy stuff will be. A couple poems have been featured on some of my tracks, but this is where they'll be performed in all their acapella glory. Not much else to know. I just need to sit down hard on this and I could get it done crazy quick. But, you know ...

27 Point Me

This is following the concept started in my second mixtape's interludes. Chris Campbell will have taken over a radio station and provides you with the latest and greatest songs as well as exclusive interviews with legendary musicians and comedians. Robin Williams? Dane Cook? Lauryn Hill? Dave Chappelle? Frank Caliendo? I'm not telling. It's a comedy concept CD obviously. Only one track into it, but the mental construction is all there! And the radio station is 27.ME, hence the title. Dumb, but you'll get over it.

That's everything currently in a nutshell. This is prolly why I never get any sleep, cuz I for sure don't have any free time to be composing all of this!

I've kept a blog over there for like two or three years now, but with my recent venture into actual music making, I wanted to overstep the limitations and restrictions of that other site. I'm gonna put up all kinds of things on here, mainly geared towards my own personal catalogue, but also links to music and videos you definitely need in your life.
