You know I don't usually like to, but I gotta post a freshly leaked joint. Here's a "Sampled" post featuring two songs, kinda on a double-take. The sample in question is Yvonne Fair's "Let Your Hair Down" from 1975, and the first sampling culprit is Jay-Z's "Where I'm From". Early, gritty stuff from Hov. But then there's the fresh new K-West wannabes [(c) Shad] single "Angels", which probably just samples the Jay track, but explicitly the part of it sampled from Fair's original. They are Dirty Money, by the way. While I'm not feeling Diddy's crew too much, luckily there was someone who thought he could improve the song. And he did. And he wasn't Rick Ross, damn it. Lupe tha Killa, Killa, Killa ... oh, and for all future reference, if I'm titling the post a random generality that can somehow be about a woman, Keira Knightley will be the accompanying picture. Just saying.

It's a Terrible Thing to Waste Your Love
Back-to-back. Kanye sampled this crazy old 1976 joint by The Masqueraders called "It's a Terrible Thing to Waste Your Love". But once wasn't enough cuz he kept a version for himself and gave another one to someone else. Ye originally dropped a song over his version of the beat and made a song called "Apologize" which contains one of my favorites hooks of any and all time. And it's Kan singing it pre-autotune. It's amazing and was only released to the public through the first of his Freshmen Adjustment mixtape series. But then he flipped it again (for money) by catering the instrumental for Monica's song "Knock Knock". The solo Kanye version is a hundred times better though with the sampled crying mixed in more frequent. It's one of those dead honest story-telling verses where he laces about his insecurities while doubling it with his self indulging ego. Either way, J. Cole's got a freestyle aptly titled "Knock Knock" that he kills it on, too, and I wanted to link it up as a pseudo double sample so you can here dueling emcees floss poetic over it. Check for yourself. Oh, and I don't wanna waste my love ... which happens to be that woman on the left.

Why Would She Do That to Me?
I don't know if this is some suppressed childhood thing or something, but this SNL skit of Rosario Dawson playing Princess Jasmine from Aladdin just does something for me. And I don't feel comfortable talking much more about it on this blog. Now Rosario's one of those women who would be perfect to me even if she had just crawled out of a swamp, but this is on some other insane level of pure attractiveness. I gotta stop.

The Look of Love
I was Wiki-ing some discographies today to better label some of my rabid loose mp3s from a ton of artists. I got seemingly Mary J. Blige's entire collection straightened out last night and started up at the top today. The first group was the seven solo Ashanti songs I had unseparated. And I like to listen to the stuff as I get my Wikipedia game on, so once I randomly threw on her "Rain on Me" joint I was pleasantly surprised to hear a familiar musical backdrop.
Nelly's chick and Jay-Z happen to have both chosen beats, albeit a near decade later, that very similarly sample the late Isaac Hayes' cover song "The Look of Love". It's a hauntingly beautiful loop that really sticks in your soul and instantly reminds me of maybe my favorite Jay line of all time. As a young learner of hip hop buying classic after classic album and absorbing every drop of feasible knowledge there was, a young Jigga spit to me the lyric, "recruited lieutenants with ludicrous dreams of gettin' cream, let's do this. It gets te-di-ous. So I keep one eye open like CBS" and I was done. I've seen a T-shirt with that on it, too. Man. Anyways, enjoy the separate hip hop and R&B takes on the Hayes classic.
P.S.: That picture is the look of love to me.

#1: No Words to Even Begin to Describe

Numba 1 is ... Keira Knightley!!!
The long-delayed completion of my short wifey series ends at the amazingly perfect British actress from all the Pirates, Domino, Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, the fourth Star Wars, Love Actually, King Arthur, Bend It Like Beckham, and every good magazine cover ever photographed. I love that woman.
Musically, Alicia Keys obviously moves my soul in a ridiculous way, but I want Keira Knightley to be my love interest in a music video. And I'll accidently mess up every time so we'll have to keep reshooting scenes over and over forever. No matter how stupidly chick-flicky any movie in the world is, I'm there if she's in it. She's the best actress in the entire world, so I'll fight someone over that, too. She makes my life better. You don't even understand.
I've only ever even met one girl in the universe who is prettier than Keira and you can prolly count on me not blog posting about her on here. So let's just say Keira Knightley is wifey 1.1 behind the unnamed wifey numba 1.0. Alrighty?

Back before I fully got immersed in the Mob's intricate & individually stylistic lyricism on some of the harder subjects to convey in rap music, this is the song I was ignorantly bumping anyway. Any Cee-Lo chorus has me fiending regardless, but this one is simply undeniable. There's no calling anyone out their name here. It's just conversation. Amazingly related conversation. I get chills on this this song. That's apparently my measure of classic status. Goosebumps. Oh, and Rosario Dawson has beautiful skin.

I am definitely not a notable original in my thinking of this woman, but goodness.
I'm confident enough to crown Ms. Keys the songstress of our generation. Who doesn't know every single word and scat-like odd note of "Fallin'", "If I Ain't Got You", "Karma", or "No One"? No one. That's who.
She's the genuine human version of every fake Beyonce/Ciara/Christina Milian R&B singer that gets on the charts and stays in the public eye. You just know she's for real. You just know. And you can't tell me otherwise. Plus 30 million records and 11 Grammy's?
Forget that she's been in Smokin' Aces, The Nanny Diaries, and The Secret Life of Bees to show she's not just a beautiful voice. And she's got the new James Bond theme song. If that ain't legit, I don't know what it.
I love her. Bought every album. Sought every rare feature. Sweat every new music video. Yeah. That's my girl. She's undeniably one of the most talented woman in the world in my opinion.

Yeah. Don't feel like flippin' typing everything up and linking again, so let's just say that she closed the Olympic ceremonies in China as a British woman. And she won the British equivalent of American Idol, The X-Factor. She's British and gonna be giving the world amazing R&B ballads for years to come. She's from Britain. Don't know if I mentioned that. Brit.

#5: Not the Creek
So my computer's been down for a while cuz I left my power chord back in the Ville, but I'm good now. And none of my posts got deleted while I was gone! So here's the first ode to my favorite women on the planet.
Numba 5 is ... Rosario Dawson!!!
She's every bit of Puerto Rican, African, Cuban, Irish, and Native American! Woooow! Can't beat that. She coulda got like $500 billion in scholarships!
She's in movies like He's Got Game, The Rundown, Clerks II, Alexander, and Men in Black II. But my favorite contribution of hers to my life comes in the form of a "feature" of sorts in an Andre 3000 song! So you know she's legit!
She's just big time all around, getting role in movie after movie as well as sequel after sequel. She's got a voice. She's non-partisan (OH MY GOD!). She's involved in about a thousand organizations and charities. She's a producer. And she does comic books. Now that's a woman. I mean, I'm not big into comic books, but nothing replaces that kind of variety.
And she's gorgeous.
